WAWARSING, N.Y. — A Highland man drowned in the Vernooy Kill Creek on Monday, according to state police.
In a press release on Tuesday, Sept. 15, state police said troopers from the Wawarsing barracks responded to reports of a possible drowning in the Vernooy Kill Creek off Lundy Road around 6:37 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14.
Police said Owen Garrison, 47, of Highland, was located in the creek and removed by members of the Napanoch Fire Department.
Garrison was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
State police said the incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact the state police at Wawarsing’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation by calling (845) 344-5300.
State police were assisted at the scene by the Napanoch Fire Department, Ellenville Emergency Medical Services and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office.
