NEW YORK (PIX11) — The 2026 midterm elections are quickly approaching. With Tuesday marking National Voter Registration Day, it’s the perfect time to brush up on how to register.
Register to vote in New York
In order to vote in New York, you must be:
a US citizen
18 years old (you may pre-register at 16 or 17 but can’t vote until you are 18)
a resident of New York and the county, city or village for at least 30 days before the election
not in prison for a felony conviction
not adjudged mentally incompetent by a court
not claiming the right to vote somewhere else

You can register in person through your county board of elections, at any New York State voter registration center or at the Department of Motor Vehicles.
You can also register by mail by requesting a voter registration form or calling 1-800-367-8683 and mailing it to your county board of elections.
Register to vote in New Jersey
In order to vote in New Jersey, you must be:
a US citizen
18 years old (you may pre-register at 16 or 17 but can’t vote until you are 18)
a resident of New Jersey and the county, city or village for at least 30 days before the election
not in prison for a felony conviction
not adjudged mentally incompetent by a court

You can download the form, print it out, fill it out and send it to your county commissioner of registration or superintendent of elections.
