Portland’s Douro listed in New York Times’ top 2026 restaurants

PORTLAND, Maine (WGME) — The New York Times has released its 2026 list of 50 favorite places to eat in the U.S., and a newly opened restaurant in Portland made the cut.

Douro opened less than a year ago near the waterfront on Thames Street.

It’s a Portuguese-inspired seafood and wine bar.

The New York Times describes the food as “coastal Portugal meets coastal Maine” and praises the cuisine for its “farm-to-table spirit” that gives just as much attention to local vegetables as it does to seafood.

The only other New England restaurant to make the list is a newly opened Boston eatery called Dalia, which serves Spanish cuisine that departs from the Americanized menu.
