NEW YORK (WABC) — Community organizers and local politicians rallied at the Yankee Stadium ferry dock in the Bronx, calling for expanded public access to the service and greater investment in waterfront transportation options.

Speakers at the rally said it is unfair that the ferry dock is used only to transport fans to and from games. They argued that the West Bronx is a transportation desert and that residents of the surrounding neighborhood should also have access to the ferry service.

The group also called for what they described as equal treatment along the entire Harlem waterfront.

“We want to call on the city to provide us a ferry, to provide us a multi-use stop, and to finally give us a goal that we have been fighting for, for over four decades now and that is a Harlem waterfront greenway,” an advocate said.

A request for comment was sent to the mayor’s office. A response had not been received.
