The team behind Smorgasburg—the largest open-air food market in America—has taken over a waterfront space on Governors Island.
Their new venue, Six Coasts, offers a mix of fresh seafood, frozen cocktails, and live DJ sets just an eight-minute ferry ride across the harbor from Manhattan.
Executive team member Ivey Innis and Creative Director Beto Ortiz designed the venue to showcase the culinary and musical cultures of South, Central, and North America. By bringing these regional influences together, they aim to create a centralized destination that reflects the diverse neighborhoods across the city’s boroughs.
Bringing Culture to the Waterfront
According to Ortiz, while New York City is filled with cultural diversity, those neighborhood elements rarely make their way to premium waterfront locations.
Six Coasts was built to bridge that gap, giving residents a place that feels like a genuine vacation without leaving city limits. The menu highlights this approach, featuring raw bar staples like oysters on the half shell, vibrant ceviche topped with jalapeño and avocado, and tropical drinks served directly out of fresh pineapples and coconuts.
A Quick Escape
Located at 146 Carder Road, the bright green and yellow venue sits in plain view after visitors step off the ferry and walk past the large red Governors Island welcome sign. With standard daily ferry service available from lower Manhattan, the waterfront bar is positioning itself as an easy summer getaway for locals looking to unwind with a cold drink and a view of the skyline.
