A second person has died in connection with a cluster of Legionnaires’ disease in the South Bronx, health officials said Thursday.
The city’s health commissioner, Dr. Alister Martin, confirmed the death in a statement.
“We mourn the loss of each New Yorker, and our hearts are with their loved ones as they navigate this difficult time,” Martin said.
Last week, the city’s Health Department said one person had died in connection with the cluster.
Earlier this week, officials said three people remained hospitalized and a total of 11 people had tested positive.
The department identified 10 cooling towers in the 10451 and 10456 ZIP codes — covering Melrose and Morrisania — that had tested positive for Legionella bacteria.
Earlier in the summer, 11 people died in connection with a Legionnaires’ outbreak on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
