The New York Knicks paused ticket sales for the upcoming season Thursday following blowback over high-priced tickets that charged fans $1,000 for nosebleed seats.
The 2025-2026 NBA championship squad said the listed prices for the Knicks’ Oct. 20 season opener at Madison Square Garden against Philadelphia were “a mistake.”
“We are pausing Knicks individual ticket sales due to a mistake in our pricing. We are rolling back to last year’s prices plus an average increase of 12%,” Madison Square Garden Sports said in a statement. “We will restart sales with new prices shortly, and anyone who already purchased individual tickets will be refunded the difference.”
Opening Night tickets went on sale Wednesday afternoon on Ticketmaster, where tickets in Section 418 — the skybox — started at $1,039.50 per seat. MSG set ticket prices in the 300s at the $1,550 range and over $2,000 for seats in the 200s.
At that amount, the average opening-night ticket price would run the everyday Knicks fan north of $2,500.
The most expensive court-side seats on Ticketmaster ranged from $27,000 to $53,000 Wednesday afternoon.
The price hike, which followed an end to the team’s 53-year championship drought, outraged fans.
“Loyal Knicks fans supported this franchise through two decades of darkness… losing season after losing season,” Knicks fan Tommy Beer wrote on X Wednesday. “A multibillion-dollar franchise pricing its own non-wealthy fans out of the Garden on a night the fanbase has been dreaming about for 50 years. Shameful.”
The Knicks will receive their 2026 NBA Championship rings before the opening night game.
