Three New York nursing home staff members charged in resident’s choking death
HERKIMER COUNTY, N.Y. —
Three staff members of a New York nursing home have been arrested and charged after a resident died from choking.
Attorney General Letitia James said the 34-year-old resident died at The Grand at Mohawk Valley. James said the resident died after choking on a meatball.
Prosecutors allege that a dietary aide and a nurse failed to assist the resident as she lay face down on a table. The facility’s administrator was also arrested.
The dietary aide, Mary Stocking, was charged with second-degree manslaughter, while the nurse and administrator face other charges.
Authorities said the resident was known to be at high risk for choking.
