A teenage girl was killed and another was injured after they collided with a truck while riding a bike in the East Village on Friday, according to the NYPD.
It happened around 9 p.m. at East 14th Street and First Avenue, close to Stuyvesant Town, the NYPD said.
Police said a 2021 Peterbilt commercial truck, driven by a 58-year-old man, was making a right turn onto northbound First Avenue when it collided with the bike.
The bike was also turning north onto First Avenue, according to police. The 15-year-old girl and 16-year-old girl on the bike were both rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue.
The 15-year-old girl, identified by police as Daria Serkov, died at the hospital, the NYPD said. The other teenager is in stable condition.
The driver remained at the scene and no arrests have been made, police said.
Assembly Member Keith Powers, who represents the area where the crash happened, wrote on X: “Absolutely horrifying. My thoughts are with the two victims and their families.”
“We must do everything we can to increase safety on our streets and ensure nothing like this ever happens again,” he added.
