WASHINGTON (TNND) — One Flag Forward, a 250-mile relay run to commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11, concluded in Washington D.C. on Thursday. The relay, which lasted five days, started on Sept. 12 at the Intrepid Museum in New York City.
A single American flag was carried by several runners over the 250 miles to the National Mall in the nation’s capital, with some runners traveling the full 50 miles per day for the entire duration of the run.
The run was to honor the 2,977 lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001.
Runners were encouraged to wear blue for the event, and donations made from the run are divided equally between two organizations, Wear Blue: run to remember and Team Red, White & Blue, which are nationally recognized nonprofits serving the military-connected community.
