Security operations are ramped up and street closures will be in effect across Midtown as world leaders arrive for the 81st UN General Assembly.

The following street closures will be in effect:

First Avenue is closed from 41st Street to 48th Street

44th Street to 47th Streets closed from First Avenue to Second Avenue

42nd Street close from First to Second Avenue every day until 9 p.m.

FDR Drive 42nd Street exit will be blocked off.

First Avenue Tunnel will remain open northbound for passenger vehicles and bicycles.

Vehicles requiring access to Tudor City can enter via 41st and 43rd Streets.

Trump will be at the UN on Tuesday, but on Monday he will arrive in New York City and meet with Mayor Zohran Mamdani. The two have met before at the White House, but it will be Trump’s first visit as president to Gracie Mansion, he has not been there in years. There is no word on what topics they will discuss.

Trump will also meet with Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who confirmed that he and President Trump agreed to meet in New York. The US has been trying to broker an agreement between Russia and Ukraine to de-escalate their fighting and to resume negotiations.
The UN will be hosting more than 100 heads of state this week under incredibly tight security with conflicts around the globe.

Delegations from Iran, Ukraine and Israel will all be there, including Netanyahu. He’ll be there on Wednesday and will have his own security detail along with the secret service.

His presence is expected to draw protestors both against the Israeli government and in support of it… Israel’s ambassador to the UN has accused Mayor Mamdani of encouraging anti-Israel protests. Last week the mayor refuted that.

“I do not have any plans to attend any protests at the United Nations General Assembly. In general, as we prepare for the UN General Assembly, right now, there are no expected threats that we know of. We continue to be confident in being able to deliver safety and security for New Yorkers. And you know, to New Yorkers, I have never encouraged them to protest. What I have always told them is that they have the right to do so in this city,” said Mamdani.

The mayor also said weeks ago that he will not be looking to have Netanyahu arrested for war crimes because that’s not something he can do. Netanyahu is expected to address the general assembly on Thursday. President Trump will speak on Tuesday. He is also expected to meet with Venezuela’s interim president.
