Emily Krupnick is anything but lax in her praise for these athletes.

“Over the last six months since I’ve been out here with them,” Krupnick said. “It’s, it’s, it’s a dramatic increase in, in talent and skill, athleticism. They look really great. “

Krupnick is a volunteer with Bronx Lacrosse. The organization offers its namesake sport, tutoring, college readiness and more.

“They use lacrosse as a method to get kids invested in and thriving in school,” she said.

The sport has been a lifelong passion for Krupnick. She and her twin sister, Julie, started playing it as children.

“I just loved having, having lacrosse to go to every day and having the team and the people,” Emily Krupnick said.

Emily Krupnick kept at it. She was the captain of the lacrosse team at Haverford College.

A year after she graduated, Emily Krupnick volunteered to join her sister, who was already working at Bronx Lacrosse.

“I would come home and rave about the program, and she knew right away that she wanted to get involved,” Julie Krupnick, the managing director of operations at Bronx Lacrosse, said.

“I really wanted to find a way to stay involved in the sport, give back to the community through the sport that I’ve, I’ve played forever,” Emily Krupnick said.

The Murray Hill resident is now part of the associate board, organizing young professional events for Bronx Lacrosse.

She mentors players in everything from their math homework to their matches on the road.

Emily Krupnick is also building up the organization’s women’s program. The number of girls at Bronx Lacrosse has more than doubled in the last five years.

“There’s been such a boom in women’s sports in the last few years,” Emily Krupnick said. “It’s exciting to see that translate to the college, the high school, and the community programming.”

“She’s a big leader for me,” said Marcelle Djabigou, a Bronx Lacrosse participant. “Like, I look up to her a lot, and she just teaches me a lot of the things I know now.”

It’s a chance to instill a passion for the sport that has given her so much.

“I just love seeing the kids so happy playing lacrosse and, having lacrosse sticks, walking around in the community and then going on and doing great things,” Emily Krupnick said.
