A 48-year-old Bronx man has been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting that killed an 18-year-old man and wounded four other people in the Eastchester section of the Bronx last month, police said.
Billy Perez, 48, of Marion Avenue in the Bronx, was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 21. He faces charges of intentional murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon, according to authorities.
The shooting happened around 5:40 a.m. Aug. 23 near East 233rd Street and was reported to police through a 911 call.
Police said an 18-year-old man was shot in the head, a 20-year-old woman was shot in the foot and a 22-year-old man was shot in the chest. The 18-year-old, identified as Werling Mendez, of the Bronx, was taken by private means to BronxCare Health System in critical condition and later died.
The 20-year-old and 22-year-old victims were transported by EMS to Jacobi Hospital in stable condition, police said.
Police were also informed that a 25-year-old woman was taken to BronxCare Health System and a 37-year-old woman was transported to Jacobi Hospital. Both were reported in stable condition, according to an NYPD spokesperson.
Police did not provide additional details about the circumstances leading to the shooting or the allegations against Perez. The investigation remains ongoing.
