The Syracuse men’s basketball team will be making their way to the big city this winter for a matchup with an old Big East rival.
Syracuse Athletics announced that the Orange will be making the trip to Brooklyn to face the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Friday, February 6th at the Barclays Center.
The game is now the second neutral site regular season game added to the team’s upcoming schedule. The team will first travel to Boston on December 19th to faceoff with the Providence Friars at TD Garden.
The Scarlet Knights finished last season a near mirror to the Orange at just 14-20, while the Orange finished a dismal 15-17. Both teams will be deep into the season and looking to make pushes in their respective conferences.
The Syracuse and Rutgers rivalry stretches back to both team’s time in the Big East before the Orange bolted to the ACC and Rutgers to the Big 10. Syracuse currently has a dominant 39-10 series lead over the Scarlet Knights in the all-time series.
The last time the two teams met was a breaking of a long held streak. The Orange fell to the Scarlet Knights on December 8th of 2020, 79-69, in Piscataway. The Scarlet Knights were ranked 21st in the country at the time. That win broke a 13 game winning streak for the Orange in the series.
The Orange will look to get that win back and start another streak.
Tip-off for the game has yet to be determined.
