NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The NYPD released an image Wednesday of a suspect in the killing of a 14-year-old boy, who sources said was shot for a scooter this week in the Rockaways.
The image put out by police shows the male suspect riding a scooter on Norton Avenue around the time of the shooting on Monday afternoon.
The victim, Malakai Adams, of Arverne, was shot in the back just after 3:30 p.m. at the Ocean Bay Apartments on Beach Channel Drive in Edgemere, according to police.
He was rushed to Cohen Children’s Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Law enforcement sources told 1010 WINS that it appeared whoever shot him was attempting to steal his scooter. It wasn’t immediately clear if the scooter in the photo released by police is the victim’s scooter.
