Sibling singer-songwriters Rufus and Martha Wainwright have announced their annual holiday extravaganza, “Manhattan for the Holidays,” coming to Town Hall in Manhattan on December 6. 

The concert will feature special guests Cyndi Lauper, Alice Phoebe Lou, Jenni Muldaur and more along with Wainwright family members Loudon Wainwright III and Lucy Wainwright Roche.

Net proceeds for the event will go to Folk Cancer: The Kate McGarrigle Project, a collaboration between Rufus and Martha and the non-profit Cancer Can Rock. Named after Rufus and Martha’s late mother and folk artist Kate McGarrigle, the project works to offer musicians with aggressive cancer the opportunity to professionally record their music.

The Mumrr Arts Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to commissioning, collecting, exhibiting and preserving significant works of various art forms, will present its third artist commission. The commission program brings art to an audience outside of a gallery or museum setting. 

The third Murmrr Commission features work from acclaimed photographer and filmmaker Laurie Simmons. Simmons began creating art in the mid-1970s, with this commission exploring the ideas of home, family, memory and the recurring image in her work of a house or castle. Proceeds from the sale will also go towards The Kate McGarrigle Project. 

Born in New York and raised in Montreal, Rufus has released 10 studio albums and three live albums, including the Grammy nominated albums Rufus Does Judy at Carnegie Hall and Unfollow the Rules. He has collaborated with the likes of Elton John, Miley Cyrus, Billy Joel and more.Martha Wainwright

Martha, a singer, songwriter and actress, released six albums from 2005 to 2021, including JUNO nominated album Songs in the Dark, made in collaboration with her half sister Lucy Wainwright Roche in 2015. Martha has also dipped her toes in the acting world with appearances in Martin Scorsese’s 2004 film “Aviator,” and the 2014 HBO special “Olive Kitteridge.”
