UTICA, N.Y. — Anglers will be able to fish for free without a license on Free Fishing Day on Sept. 26.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation announced that the event coincides with National Hunting and Fishing Day.
The final Free Fishing Day for 2026 is set for Nov. 11, Veterans Day.
On these designated days, residents and non-residents can fish on New York’s fresh waters without a fishing license.
The DEC reminded participants that all other fishing regulations still apply.
Anyone 16 and older must have a valid New York State fishing license to fish on other days. Licenses are valid for 365 days from the date of purchase, and more information is available on the DEC website.
