A fire broke out Friday morning at an elevated subway station in the Bronx, sending thick plumes of smoke into the air and disrupting 2 train service.

The blaze was reported shortly before 10 a.m. at the Wakefield-241st Street station along White Plains Road.

Video from the scene showed firefighters battling large flames on the elevated platform.

MTA Chairman and CEO Janno Lieber said the fire started in a storage area that is also used as a locker room. The fire was extinguished by 11 a.m., he said, and there were no injuries reported.

“Thank you, FDNY, for your prompt response,” Lieber said. “There were no injuries, although it was a highly visible conflagration.”

Lieber said New York City Transit’s safety operation is investigating the cause of the fire.

The fire suspended 2 train service between Gun Hill Road and Wakefield-241st Street, the MTA said. Commuters were advised to use the Bx39 bus as an alternative.

Lieber said normal service was expected to resume soon.
