Jesus A. Camacho, 36, of Columbia, was pulled over just before 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15 on the New York State Thruway in Rosendale, New York State Police said.

Camacho was traveling northbound in a 2017 Nissan when he was stopped, authorities said. He was the only person in the car, according to officials.

As police were investigating, K-9 officer Kell was deployed and alerted troopers to the smell of narcotics, state police said. Investigators then found seven individually wrapped packages totalling about seven kilograms of cocaine, according to authorities.

Camacho was arrested at the scene and charged with first- and third-degree drug possession, troopers said. He was initially booked in Ulster County jail but was released Friday, Sept. 18, according to online records.
