On September 1, 2026, at approximately 3:52 p.m., members of the Troop F Community Stabilization Unit observed a 2025 Honda Civic northbound on the NYS Thruway in the Town of Rosendale in violation of multiple New York Vehicle and Traffic Laws.
Troopers initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver and sole occupant as Akeen D. Barnes, age 39, of Teaneck, New Jersey. During the investigation founded suspicion of criminal activity was established and a search of the vehicle was conducted. During the search, approximately 2 kilograms of cocaine were discovered within the trunk area.
Barnes was charged with the following:
• Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree Narcotic, a class A felony
• Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree Narcotic drug intent to sell, a class B felony
• Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree, an unclassified misdemeanor.
Barnes was arraigned on September 1, 2026 at Ulster County Centralized Arraignment Part and was ordered held without bail at the Ulster County Jail.
