(UPDATE: No delays are reported as of 12 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26)

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Staten Island Railway trains are running with delays in both directions this morning, according to a post by the Metropolitan Transporation Authority.

Debris on the rails, likely related to the nor’easter predicted to cause high winds and heavy rains on Staten Island through Sunday, is the reason for the delays, according to the MTA post.

Gov. Kathy Hochul has declared a state of emergency that includes Staten Island as the powerful coastal storm threatens New York City, Long Island and parts of the lower Hudson Valley with coastal flooding, dangerous surf, strong winds and possible power outages through the weekend.

The National Weather Service predicts the high winds to cause damage and threaten power lines, while heavy rains will make driving dangerous and flooding possible.

The post did not elaborate on the location of the debris, though a reader reported a downed tree across the rails at the Oakwood Station early Saturday morning. The MTA post did not report an expected return to normal service,

This is an ongoing story and will be updated as news becomes available.
