SULLIVAN’S ISLAND, S.C. (WCSC) — A 64-year-old New York man was rushed to a local hospital Saturday afternoon after going into cardiac arrest on a Sullivan’s Island beach, according to emergency officials.
The Sullivan’s Island Police Department and Sullivan’s Island Fire and Rescue responded to a medical call on the beach near Station 24.
The man’s wife said he was carrying a cooler when he suddenly suffered shortness of breath and collapsed. His wife immediately began CPR and was performing chest compressions when first responders arrived.
Officers and firefighters took over life-saving measures until Charleston County EMS arrived at the scene. Paramedics transported the man to an area hospital while he remained in cardiac arrest.
His current medical condition has not been released.
