On September 27, 2026, at approximately 3:57 p.m., State Police responded to County Route 46 in the town of Le Ray for a two-vehicle crash.
A preliminary investigation determined that a 2002 Honda CR-V, operated by a 32-year-old male from Gouverneur, was traveling south on County Route 46 when it attempted to pass an uninvolved vehicle and collided head on with a 2023 Buick Encore traveling north operated by a 65-year-old male from Theresa.
The Honda was occupied by a 31-year-old female passenger from Deferiet.
All three occupants were transported to Samaritan Medical Center.
The 31-year-old female passenger of the Honda was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Both drivers have serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit responded and is assisting with the investigation.
The investigation remains ongoing.
