Interim Town of Tonawanda Supervisor John Flynn has proposed a budget for next year that includes a 3.9% tax increase.

Flynn said he is fully aware of the strain on households right now during Monday night’s board meeting. However, he believes raising the city’s tax beyond the 2% cap is necessary with the current rate of inflation.

He says that this comes after he considered keeping the increase at 2%.

“To do so, in my opinion, would put future town budgets at risk of having much higher tax rate increases in the coming years, like some other municipalities have seen in Western New York in recent years,” Flynn said.

The budget proposal is Flynn’s first as supervisor after he was appointed in May 2026.

The proposal is available on the town’s website. It will be reviewed during town board workshops in October.
