Visits to food pantries across New York state are up significantly driven by higher food costs caused by soaring diesel prices and persistent inflation.
Over the last three years in New York City, one in three people have visited food pantries, including those who work full-time. In upstate New York, the picture is just as grim. Pantry visits across emergency food networks are up 10% year over year, and the increase is continuing to rise as we approach the holiday season.
Natasha Pernicka, CEO of the Food Pantries of the Capital Region, joined Capital Tonight to discuss the situation.

Additionally, the Food Pantries for the Capital District is hosting its 15th Annual Harvest Evening Celebration on Thursday, Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m. at Franklin Plaza in Troy.
