At around 11:45 a.m., Melissa Duran, 39, came out of a red Honda Civic and allegedly slashed the face of a 54-year-old man in front of his Bayside home on 53rd Avenue, according to investigators.

The man was sent to a local hospital in stable condition, according to police.

“As alleged, the 54-year-old victim was standing on his porch on Thursday morning when Melissa Duran – without any provocation – ran toward him with knife and slashed his face,” Katz said. “In an instant, this innocent man’s life was changed, and he is now recovering from a laceration along his temple and ear.”

In addition to the random knife attack, Duran allegedly damaged her own mother’s BMW at her home earlier that same morning, according to court reports. The mother had an order of protection against Duran.

Duran would later return Thursday night to her mother’s house and allegedly continue bashing the car, according to police. A kitchen knife was found stuck in its rear bumper.

Duran is facing charges of attempted murder, assault, among others, according to court reports. If convicted, she could face up to 25 years in prison.

No date has been stated for Duran’s next court appearance.
