Edgewater Borough Administrator Greg Franz told Pix11 there is evidence that people pushed vehicles into the water after flooding had already begun.
Franz stressed to Daily Voice that the activity is alleged and said officials had been monitoring the area throughout the weekend as cars appeared in the floodwaters, some of which were documented in social media posts.
“No victims of a crime to investigate however, local police and the NJ AG fraud unit, NJ Dept of Banking and Insurance, along with insurance carriers are aware of the social media video posts,” Franz said.
Multiple people had to be rescued from vehicles along River Road during heavy downpours over the weekend, as previously reported by Daily Voice.
New video that surfaced Monday, Sept. 28, showed additional vehicles in the floodwaters that appeared after the rescues, PIX11 reports. A BMW 7 Series and a Mercedes-Benz worth about $130,000 may be among the vehicles involved, according to the outlet.
