Dominick Rizzo Jr., 37; Alicia Ruefle, 39; and Abigail Rizzo, 11, all died from their injuries in the blaze, the city of Troy announced.

Dominick Rizzo III, 13, jumped from a second-story window to survive, according to an online fundraiser launched for the family.

“While he survived, he has also endured an unimaginable loss,” GoFundMe organizer Missy Remington wrote in the campaign. “We are asking our family, friends, neighbors, and community to come together and help carry this family through the months ahead.”

The fire erupted Sunday night, Sept. 27 at the Rizzo family’s home on 13th Street in Troy, according to the fundraiser and Troy firefighters.

A group of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute students spotted the blaze and called 911, then saw young Dominick in the window and encouraged him to jump, catching him as he fell, one student told local ABC affiliate WTEN.

First responders first located Dominick Rizzo Jr. in a hallway, then found his fiancée, Ruefle, and their daughter, Abigail, in a bedroom, local NBC affiliate WNYT reported.

Ruefle and Abigail Rizzo were rushed to Westchester Medical Center Burn Center in critical condition, according to the fundraiser. They were pronounced dead Monday, Sept. 28, authorities later revealed.

“There are no words that can make a loss like this easier. Three lives have been taken far too soon, leaving an absence that will be felt by their family, friends, and everyone who loved them,” the Troy firefighters union wrote on Facebook.

“Our hearts are especially with young Dominick, who now faces the unimaginable loss of his mother, father, and sister. No child should ever have to endure so much,” the post continued.

The fundraiser had generated more than $120,000 toward a $210,000 goal as of Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 29.
