NEW YORK — People are not happy about Rye by Martin Auer, the bakery that opened Sept. 10 on a tourist-mobbed block of SoHo. But as far as I can tell, few of the complaints — the slew of negative comments on Instagram and in TikTok reviews, the dismal 2.2-star Yelp rating — have much to do with quality. Rye sells just one item: a namesake loaf of bread that most who eat it agree is very good. It is also, as the numerous haters and skeptics are quick to point out, very, very expensive.
