The New York State Police have announced the results of a six-day traffic enforcement campaign focusing on speeding and aggressive drivers across the state.
Last week we learned that the New York State Police had launched their first-ever Fall Safe Speed initiative, which kicked off on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, and ran through Sunday, September 27. The initiative focused on speeding, aggressive and dangerous driving, distracted driving, and violations of New York’s Move Over Law.

According to the New York State Police, troopers issued a total of 19,168 tickets statewide during the six-day enforcement period. Of those tickets, 9,344 were for speeding, making it by far the largest category of violations issued during the campaign.
Troopers also issued 492 tickets for violations of the Move Over Law, which requires drivers to safely move over or slow down when approaching emergency and other authorized vehicles stopped along the side of the road.

And speeding wasn’t the only problem troopers encountered.
State Police issued 415 tickets for distracted driving and another 603 tickets for seat belt violations. Here’s a breakdown of some of the tickets issued:
Speeding: 9,344Seat belt violations: 603Move Over Law violations: 492Distracted driving: 415
Total tickets: 19,168
What’s especially interesting about these numbers is that this was the first time New York State Police conducted the Fall Safe Speed initiative. If you compare these numbers to the same time period last year, there was a significant increase in the number of tickets issued.

From September 23 through September 28, 2025, State Police issued 12,040 tickets statewide, including 3,826 speeding tickets and 166 Move Over Law violations. That means troopers issued more than 7,000 additional tickets during this year’s six-day campaign compared with the comparable period last year.
The State Police say the goal of the initiative was to remind drivers to slow down, pay attention, and make safer decisions behind the wheel.
With fall officially here and more people traveling for work, school, sporting events and weekend trips, it’s also a good reminder that those speed limits and Move Over Law signs aren’t just suggestions.
