Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Wednesday that New York State had the fastest growing economy in the nation during the second quarter of 2026, according to new data released by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA).

The data showed that New York’s real gross domestic product (GDP) grew at an annual rate of 4.0% from quarter 1 to quarter 2, which was the highest of any state and nearly double the national growth rate of 2.2%.

The Hochul’s office said the state is attracting major new investments from companies like Micron, IBM, Regeneron, Chobani, Fairlife, and more. Hochul’s office said that these companies could bring tens of thousands of new jobs to New York in the future.

According to the BEA, finance and insurance were the leading contributors to New York’s GDP growth, followed by information, real estate and rental leasing, as well as professional, scientific and technical services.
