NEW YORK (PIX11) — It’s a topic with so much interest and controversy that on Wednesday, there was a long line of people waiting for a seat to attend a hearing about it.
E-bikes and further regulating them were the issue that was the focus of a City Council hearing that lasted most of the day and kept the City Council chamber at City Hall filled to capacity.

In front of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee were no fewer than 23 proposed pieces of legislation to regulate e-bikes and other powered mobility devices.
The legislation sought to:
Ban e-bikes that can move faster than15 m.p.h.
Require delivery companies to have licenses and insurance for delivery workers
Require rideshare cyclists, such as Citibike riders, to review rules of the road before renting
Require speed-reducing devices on delivery e-bikes
The Wednesday session was only a hearing. The various pieces of legislation will be further debated and voted on in later City Council sessions.
