Citizens Bank celebrated the opening of its new Downtown Flushing branch with a ribbon cutting, a grant presentation to Asian Americans for Equality (AAFE), and a Mid-Autumn Festival celebration hosted by Moonlite. The event drew attendees from the neighborhood, Citizens leaders, AAFE representatives, and community partners.
The event also highlighted Citizens’ continued commitment to Queens. Yajaira Hafley, Tri-State Metro Regional Market Executive, presented a $20,000 grant to Thomas Yu, Executive Director of AAFE, on behalf of AAFE Youth, a program that provides college access and pre-professional support to more than 600 high school students throughout Queens. The grant builds on Citizens existing partnership with AAFE.
“The opening of our new Flushing branch reflects our commitment to connecting with our customers and communities through the organizations and neighborhoods that make New York City so special.” said Hafley. “We’re proud to support AAFE’s work and help create stronger financial futures here in Flushing.”
“Hundreds of high school students in our after-school programs are able to become the first members of their families to attend college,” said Thomas Yu, executive director of Asian Americans for Equality (AAFE). “We are grateful to Citizens for providing meaningful financial support to ensure that our vital youth initiatives continue to thrive. All of us at AAFE value the strong partnership with Citizens to bolster small businesses in our community and support youth across Queens.” said Thomas Yu, Executive Director of AAFE.
Following the ribbon cutting outside the new branch, a Chinese lion dance by Flushing-based Awaken Lion opened the Mid-Autumn Festival celebration, produced in partnership with Moonlite. Guests enjoyed Asian American-inspired cuisine, live music from multidisciplinary supergroup Kung Flow, as well as a traditional sugar artist and mooncakes from Flushing’s own Mr. Tu Bakery. Giveaways included fresh produce symbolizing good fortune and prosperity.
The new Citizens branch features an expanded local team, multilingual services, and tailored support for small businesses.
