In Queens, more than 51,700 residents aged 65 and older have Alzheimer’s. With the New York City Marathon coming around the corner, Team ALZ (Alzheimer’s Association marathon team) has a local runner from Astoria running the race. Her name is Melissa Vogan. Melissa is a full-mission volunteer for the Alzheimer’s Association New York City Chapter. She has been part of the Queens Walk to End Alzheimer’s committee for several years and will now be running her first New York City Marathon. She has currently raised $5,471.

Melissa will be honoring her aunt/godmother, Diane Corjulo, who passed away from early-onset Alzheimer’s on January 14, 2026. The New York City Marathon will be exactly one week before what would have been her 65th birthday. Melissa’s fundraising link: events.alz.org/fundraisers/melissavogan/nyc-marathon
