CITY OF NEWBURGH – A Bronx man was arrested after allegedly fleeing a traffic stop, striking a marked police vehicle and resisting officers, according to the City of Newburgh Police Department.

Sgt. Mark Mountain was attempting to stop a red Dodge on South William Street at about 1:11 a.m. Sept. 29, because of a brake light violation when the driver allegedly made a U-turn, struck the side-view mirror of the patrol vehicle, and fled.

The vehicle stopped near 175 South William St., where the driver, identified as Omar Overstreet, 28, allegedly fled on foot. Officer J. Rivera caught up with Overstreet, who police said resisted arrest. Rivera suffered a knee injury during the arrest.

Police said Overstreet damaged a patrol vehicle’s interior door panel while being transported to the police station and continued to struggle with officers there, attempting to spit at and bite them.

Overstreet was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest, second-degree obstructing governmental administration and vehicle and traffic violations.

The passenger, Amy Wase, 46, of Middletown, was found to have an active bench warrant issued by the Town of Poughkeepsie, police said.
