THE BRONX (WABC) — New York Road Runners — the nonprofit behind 60 annual adult and youth races and free year-round youth and community programs — will celebrate the finale of its 5-boro Open Run series with a special 5K.

This fifth and final 5K that brings together Open Run participants from across all five boroughs is at 9 a.m. on Sunday, October 4 at St. Mary’s Park in the Bronx, the birthplace of NYRR and its free Open Run program.

The start/finish line is at E. 149th Street and Cauldwell Avenue.

The race is part of the Open Run series, which honors the 50th anniversary of the New York City Marathon’s 5-boro course and the community members that have shaped the iconic race over the decades.

NYRR Open Run, New York Road Runners’ community program, offers free weekly runs and walks in 16 neighborhood parks across New York City and Jersey City.

The series kicked off at Morningside Park in Manhattan on Aug. 15, followed by Conference House Park in Staten Island on Sept. 20, Astoria Park in Queens on Sept. 26 and Marine Park in Brooklyn on Sept. 27 (cancelled due to weather), and finishing at St. Mary’s Park in the Bronx on Oct.4.

Participants in the 5-boro celebrations can commemorate the series with a collectible 5-boro “passport,” featuring a stamp from each event, commemorative bib and water bottle, and a limited-edition 50 Years Through the Five Boroughs pin.
