Jane Pratt’s tearful departure came weeks after a NYC fall left her with severe injuries

The Jane Pratt NYC fall happened while she walked near her Chelsea home. According to Page Six, she reportedly tripped over a low bench while typing an email on her phone. The accident caused several injuries that required medical treatment.

Pratt suffered a leg gash that required 19 stitches after the accident. She also broke her sternum, the bone located in the center of her chest. The injuries sent her to the emergency room for treatment.

Weeks later, Pratt attended an East Village photography exhibition. The event featured an exhibition curated by artist David Belisle. However, she appeared to become overwhelmed before suddenly leaving the gathering.

Page Six reported that Pratt’s emotional exit stemmed from the lingering effects of her accident. The outlet reported that she had been receiving hugs from friends at the event. Those embraces reportedly aggravated her healing chest and caused further discomfort.

Pratt was reportedly comforted outside by longtime friend Michael Stipe. The R.E.M. singer was among those who stayed with her outside. Actor Benn Northover also comforted Pratt during her emotional departure.

The party took place on 6th Street in Manhattan. Photographers Ryan McGinley and Sylvia Plachy were reportedly among the attendees. The exhibition featured portraits of Patti Smith, Sinéad O’Connor and other subjects.

Pratt’s injuries may have made the event physically difficult during her recovery. Page Six suggested that she may have returned to the party scene too soon after the accident.

Pratt recently launched her newsletter, Another Jane Pratt Thing. She has also been working on a memoir titled It Happened To Me. Random House previously signed her to write the book.
