An off-duty NYPD officer was stabbed in the Bronx on Friday afternoon, according to police.
The incident happened in the vicinity of 3174 Rochambeau Ave. in Norwood just before 2 p.m. on Oct. 2, authorities said. The officer was taken to Jacobi Hospital. Sources close to the case say the officer is listed in stable condition.
Details surrounding the stabbing, which occurred within the 52nd Precinct‘s confines, remained preliminary Friday afternoon, and police were still working to determine the circumstances of the attack.
Police were also investigating reports that more than one suspect may have been involved.
In the wake of the stabbing, the NYPD canceled a previously scheduled 3 p.m. briefing at One Police Plaza where Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch and Mayor Zohran Mamdani had been set to discuss the city’s quarterly crime statistics.
Both the mayor and commissioner are heading to the Bronx to visit with the injured officer at Jacobi Hospital, according to sources.
The investigation remains ongoing.
