An off-duty NYPD detective was stabbed repeatedly in what appeared to be an attempted robbery in the Bronx, according to police.
The incident occurred around 2 p.m. Friday near the intersection of East 206th Street and Rochambeau Avenue in the Norwood neighborhood, officials said.
The 33-year-old detective was stabbed seven times, including in the leg and torso, police at the scene said. It appeared that the suspects tried to rob him, but he was stabbed while defending himself.
He was rushed to Jacobi Hospital, where he was said to be recovering, sources told NBC New York.
The detectives car and other belongings were still at the scene afterward, including a gold chain on the floor that he had been wearing. Police believe the suspects had tried to snatch the chain off him.
Police were looking for two suspects who took off from the scene on an e-bike, according to law enforcement sources. There was no information shared regarding the suspects, aside from images released by the department (below).
