THE BRONX (WABC) — Runners from across New York City are expected to gather in the Bronx on Sunday as New York Road Runners wraps up its five-borough Open Run series with a special 5K at St. Mary’s Park.
The race, which begins at 9 a.m. at East 149th Street and Cauldwell Avenue, serves as the final event in a series celebrating the 50th anniversary of the New York City Marathon’s iconic five-borough course.
Participants from all five boroughs will take part in the run, which brings together members of NYRR’s free Open Run community program. The finale is being held at St. Mary’s Park, the birthplace of both New York Road Runners and the Open Run program.
The five-race series has honored the communities, volunteers and runners who have helped shape the New York City Marathon over the past 50 years.
