Only a few days after New York saw near-record high temperatures for October, the area might soon be seeing the first frost of the season, forecasters say.
According to AccuWeather, high pressure from Canada is bringing a wave of cold air to begin the week, causing a sharp cooldown across the Northeast.
Inland areas in New York near the Great Lakes could see a frost overnight from Monday night into Tuesday, AccuWeather says.
Between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, the possibility of frost moves east, covering most of New York state north of Orange and Westchester counties, according to AccuWeather.
“Under a clear sky and diminishing winds, a frost or freeze will be possible in normally colder locations across the Great Lakes region early Tuesday morning,” said Brett Anderson, an AccuWeather senior meteorologist.
“By Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, the risk of a frost or a freeze will expand eastward into the Appalachians and interior Northeast,” Anderson continued.
