A hit-and-run driver removed the license plates from his wrecked car and ran off with them after sparking a Brooklyn crash early Monday that left one man dead and a woman clinging to life, according to police and local reports.

The still-on-the-loose driver was zipping south on Ocean Parkway in Midwood in a 2026 Audi A5 when he rear-ended a 2023 Toyota Camry near Avenue S about 12:10 a.m., cops said.

The impact caused the Camry to spin around, slamming into the back of a southbound 2021 Toyota RAV4. The hit-and run driver’s vehicle and the Camry both then jumped the curb and crashed into a tree.

The 62-year-old man driving the Camry was rushed by medics to Maimonides Medical Center but could not be saved. His name was not immediately released.

His rear-seat passenger, a 39-year-old woman, is in critical condition at the same hospital with neck and back injuries.

The 25-year-old man driving the RAV4 was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Both the Camry and the RAV4 are ride-share vehicles, according to CBS News New York.

Police sources told amNY that the Audi driver who sparked the crash ran off with his car’s license plates, leaving the wrecked luxury car behind. He has not been caught.
