WEST HARTFORD – A Hartford man was arrested late Friday after engaging police in New York and Connecticut in a pursuit, according to Connecticut State Police.
Eduardo Otero-Mendez, 31, was arrested around 11:43 p.m. Friday on the eastbound side of Interstate 84 in West Hartford following a chase in which “less-lethal rounds” and a stun gun were used, state police said.
State police said they had been alerted to be on the lookout for a bobtail truck – also known as a semi without a trailer – that had led Westchester County police on a chase Friday.
Troopers saw the truck near Exit 43 on the right shoulder on I-84 east shortly before midnight and temporarily shut down the highway, according to state police.
“During the interactions that followed, the accused operator failed to comply with multiple verbal directives issued by Troopers and continued advancing toward them,” CSP said. “In response, less-lethal rounds were deployed.”
Otero-Mendez then attempted to flee on foot, police said, and troopers then used a stun gun but it was ineffective.
Emergency medics evaluated Otero-Mendez on the scene, and he declined to be taken to the hospital, police said.
Otero-Mendez is charged in Connecticut with interfering with an officer, operating a motor vehicle without a license, operating a commercial vehicle without a commercial driver’s license and failure to comply with fingerprinting requirements, CSP said. He was held on a $20,000 and scheduled for arraignment on Monday.
Information on what may have transpired in Westchester County and any charges Otero-Mendez may be facing there was not immediately available.
