BUTTS COUNTY, Ga (WGXA) — The Butts County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the GBI and FBI, has arrested a New York man for making online death threats against Congressman Mike Collins and his son-in-law.

After an investigation, investigators identified a Buffalo, New York, man as responsible for the threats.

On Friday, Anthony Lantrell Bennett of Buffalo, New York, was charged with two counts of terroristic threats in Butts County.

The Butts County Sheriff’s Office said Bennett confessed to sending a message threatening to kill Congressman Collins and his son and law. Investigators also linked Bennett to information in an online story that was not accurate.

I understand politics. I understand disagreements. But there is a line that cannot be crossed. Threatening to kill a public official or his family is not politics — it is a criminal act, and we will take it seriously and hold those responsible accountable just as we did in this case,” Said Sheriff Gary Long.
