BELFORD, New Jersey (WABC) — Several windows of a NY Waterway ferry shattered during an incident at Belford Ferry Terminal on Tuesday morning.
NY Waterway said when the boat was departing Belford, New Jersey, for Manhattan, “the pier’s banking system contacted the ferry.”
No injuries were reported by passengers or crew members that required medical attention.
The boat safely completed its trip to Manhattan and is now temporarily out of service so repairs can be made.

Monmouth County Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone said he and fellow county commissioners were appalled by the way the incident was handled.
“Monmouth County contracted NY Waterway to provide residents with a safe, reliable, and cost-effective mode of transportation,” Arnone said. “Under that agreement, NY Waterway is responsible for its vessels, captains, and, most importantly, ensuring that its operations and vessels comply with all U.S. Coast Guard requirements and regulations.”
Arnone said the county is exploring all options and considering potential legal action to hold NY Waterway accountable.
“The County of Monmouth has expressed its concern about this incident and we are keeping them closely advised as to the corrective action we are taking,” NY Waterway said in a statement.
Officials said they expect the damaged windows to be replaced by the end of the day.
“The safety and wellbeing of our passengers is always our first priority,” the statement said. “We apologize to our Belford customers who were on board during this incident for any inconvenience or discomfort it may have caused.”
