On Tuesday September 29, Senator Joseph Addabbo Jr. hosted the OMNY Card van in Middle Village to provide services to users of the NYC Transit System.
On December 31, 2025, the Metro Card system was retired and replaced by a new way to use the subways and buses without having to swipe a card to gain entrance to subways or buses. The OMNY (One Metro New York) card is the Metropolitan Transit Authority’s new contactless tap and pay system that allows customers the opportunity to pay their fare by tapping an MTA’s contactless tap-and-go system that replaces the MetroCard for traveling on NYC buses and subways.
Customers can pay their fares by using a physical OMNY card that can be purchased for $1.00 and loaded and reloaded with funds, paid by cash or credit card, at subway station vending machines and at CVS and Walgreens pharmacies. Customers can also use smart phones to purchase and load OMNY cards via digital wallets such as Apple Pay or use any credit or debit card with a contactless wave symbol.
Many Queens residents were on line for assistance in front of Senator Addabbo’s Middle Village office waiting for service. Senator Addabbo indicated that the OMNY Van was there to assist residents to apply for Reduced Fare cards or help with the application; transfer funds from MetroCards to an OMNY card; add funds to their OMNY cards.
