U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) joined acclaimed bestselling author and Queens native, Min Jin Lee, as the novelist launched her new book in New York City. Born in South Korea, Lee and her family immigrated to the United States in 1976 when she was seven years old. Her parents settled in Elmhurst – in Meng’s congressional district – which is where Lee was raised.

Meng congratulated Lee on the release of her new book, American Hagwon, during the book launch and conversation event with the author, which took place in Manhattan. Lee has publicly spoken about immigrating to Elmhurst, borrowing books from the public library in Elmhurst and attending school in Elmhurst and Maspeth.
