On October 3, 2026, at approximately 7:03 p.m., State Police Monroe responded to a three-vehicle crash on State Route 17 in the Town of Blooming Grove.
The preliminary investigation determined that a 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Route 17 in the same lane and direction as a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder and a 2015 GMC Sierra. The Nissan and GMC slowed and came to a stop due to traffic conditions. The Chevrolet failed to stop and struck the rear of the Nissan, causing the Nissan to subsequently strike the rear of the GMC.
The sole occupant of the Chevrolet, Sean M. Nelson, age 45, of Millrift, Pennsylvania, was transported to Garnet Health Medical Center in Middletown, where he was pronounced deceased.
The operator and passenger of the Nissan were also transported to Garnet Health Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
The New York State Police were assisted at the scene by the Blooming Grove Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
The investigation remains ongoing.
