Police arrested a Bronx man on murder charges Wednesday in connection with a fatal stabbing in a Queens park — though they said they were still working to identify the victim.
Officials said they took 53-year-old Abdullah Spencerel into custody after a witness recognized him as the person who allegedly stabbed another man during an argument early Wednesday morning. Police said the incident happened in Major Mark Park, a public green space on Hillside Avenue and 173rd Street.
Police said it was not immediately clear what sparked the violence, but the person who witnessed the altercation between the two men pointed officers toward Spencerel, who was arrested three blocks away.
He was charged with murder and criminal weapons possession, and his arraignment was pending Thursday in Queens criminal court. Police said he lives in the Bronx’s Highbridge neighborhood. Information for his lawyer was not immediately available.
NYPD officials said they had not yet identified the victim, who appeared to be in his early 20s.
