Federal agents shot and injured a person during an interaction in the Bronx on Thursday afternoon, law enforcement sources said.
The shooting occurred at about 4 p.m. on Oct. 8 at the corner of West 225th Street and Marble Hill Avenue in Marble Hill — a neighborhood that has seen increased ICE activity in recent weeks.
Police reported that there had been “a shooting involving federal law enforcement agents,” and that the NYPD “was not involved in the incident and was not on the scene at the time of the shooting.”
Multiple outlets indicated the agents were members of ICE; PIX11 reported that it’s believed the shooting occurred as ICE agents attempted to make an arrest.
The wounded person, whose identity, age and gender are not yet known, was taken to a local hospital. The NYPD said the individual “is currently conscious and receiving medical attention.”
The Bronx Times, an affiliate of amNewYork, reported earlier this week that a group of elected officials representing Bronx and Upper Manhattan neighborhoods had urged Kingsbridge Developers, owners of a Marble Hill shopping mall that includes a Target store, to forbid ICE agents from using the store’s parking lot as a staging area for their operations.
The Target store is located less than a quarter-mile away from the site of Thursday’s shooting in Marble Hill.
